Invalid update

In case some of you haven't heard, I have a boo-boo.
On Monday evening, July 8, I was climbing a ladder to retrieve an ice chest from the loft of the garden shed and for some unknown reason, the ladder fell to the side and I came down on my foot. At Urgent Care they took X-Rays and concluded that I had some chips off one of the bones in my ankle. They wrapped it and sent me home telling me to treat it like a sprain, keep it up and iced and see my regular doctor in 5-7 days. And so I did just that.
There are those who think Lucy may have pushed the ladder over in an effort to have me spend more time with her and that may well be true as she was the first one at my side as I writhed in pain on the garden shed floor!
As you can see she has enjoyed a lot of cuddling. Instead of driving to Sandpoint the next day to pick up our new bed, I spent most of the week on the couch with my leg on a pile of pillows!

I visited the doctor on Monday and he said he didn't think the spots were chips of bone but that it was just a bad sprain and he prescribed a walking boot for 5 weeks. Here I am getting fitted with my new boot.
Monday evening, Rebecca and Drew came home from the east side of the state with Jakob's belongings from his apartment and Layden and Clara. We will have them for the next month so Chelsea and Oli don't have to figure out who can watch them while Chelsea has a couple of retreats/convention things for her school work. We have lots of fun activities planned for their time here including swimming lessons, VBS and a visit to Katie's house. One of our first projects was Marbleworks. Here you can see Lucy adding her opinion as Grammy helps design the perfect set-up.
The set-up was great but we couldn't really test it because the marbles Aunt Rebecca bought to use were just a hair too big!

Clara got to open her birthday presents their first night with us and Layden got to open a fancy Lego kit that Papa found at a garage sale for $5 - new in the box! Uncle Drew helped him the first evening and they got about halfway done. It was put away for the  night when bath time came around and the next day Layden finished the project, much to Uncle Drew's dismay!
This week we rented a storage unit for Jakob's stuff and Larry, Drew, Becky, the kids along with Pastor Sarah and Chuck's (pastor's hubby) help, the trailer was emptied but not unhitched. Yesterday afternoon, Larry and I headed out for Sandpoint to pick up the bed and the kids headed over to Katie's for an adventure.

Larry ended up having to do all the driving and I sat in the backseat with my foot propped up on the console or the back of the passenger seat.

Today the appliance repair guy is working on Karla's dishwasher and I have a change of scenery!

The Walsh Family in 2012

In 2012:
  • Layden started kindergartern - his favorite subject is science and he loves reading books about topics like viruses, dinosaurs, sharks and robots
  • Clara decided to grow out her hair, the better to put "ponies" in
  • We adopted two kittens, a sister, "Climby" and brother, "Mishka".
  • Chelsea graduated with her Master's in Plant Science and was crazy enough to start a PhD in Soil science right away (studying earthworms and soil ecology)
  • Oli is still working at the hospital and taking care of the kids Mon-Thurs
  • Chelsea has started building a canoe/kayak hybrid (I have decided it will be a "kaynoe") and is hoping it will be done by the time the weather gets nice again.
  • Layden learned to ride a bike with no training wheels
  • We have all started going to the climbing wall at the University of Idaho more and are looking forward to nice weather and going climbing together outside
  • Our house is now diaper free (well before college, Yay!)
  • Layden is starting to read and write
  • Clara's artistic skills have progressed beyond scribbling and she seems to be in a Picasso-esque period
  • Chelsea and Oli both turned 30!
  • Both kids enjoy cooking and Clara can make a delicious rice and lentil pilaf
  • Everyday was full of little (and big) trials and little (and big) triumphs
  • No one went crazy (yet)

My creation

A new post for Chuck!

Chuck was whining last night that there aren't any new posts on this blog.  I strongly suggested he get on Facebook to see the family updates - that seems to be where they happen - does anyone besides Chuck even read this?   Comment if you do read this okay?

We got 8 inches of snow last night!  Dave is over doing snow removal at Luther Park.  He's the oldest so usually gets the heated cab of the skid steer.  They came over and got our snow blower so that everyone had a piece of equipment a little bigger than a snow shovel!  Brita is up at Schweitzer skiing with Ron Camp - third day up and she's enjoying that.  I just shoveled some of the patio so Koira could do her business and as much of the driveway as I could before I tired out.

Jens reported he has a 1/2 day teaching today and a whole day tomorrow so he has gotten 5 1/2 days out of 10 I think for his first two weeks substituting.

Looking forward to kids showing up here starting tomorrow with Jens and Karina.  Not sure when Dieter and Katie will make their appearance.   I think that will depend on the weather.  Looking forward to having everyone home!

Fun to be in the new house for Christmas!  Dave is doing well - busy working on his new wood lathe whenever he gets the chance.

Getting Settled

Our new house is starting to feel more like home.  It certainly was a busy September with moving and at both of my part time jobs.  I had a trip to Boise at the end of the month - that is where the synod assembly will be held in 2013.  It looks like it will be a busy October as well with quilt retreat and another trip to Boise for me and Bishops Convocation for David.

David has his shop/garage almost usable.  The bonus/sewing room is going to take a little more work but I at least know where my sewing machine is!  The downstairs is pretty much together.  There are a few more small projects on the honey do list but not many.  I've been trying to get some work done in the flowerbeds and a few things transplanted from the parsonage.  Luckily because Dana and Wendy are moving in to the parsonage I'll be able to take starts even next spring.  But I want to get some things in so we have some flowers here next spring.
